Injection Molding Basics

Our basics three part series provides participants with a general understanding of the three major aspects of injection molding; the injection molding machine, the molding process, and the injection mold. These courses demonstrate the inner workings of the machine and mold and to easily convey otherwise complex concepts.

The part 1 machine course provides an introduction to the injection molding process and machine types. The major components of an injection molding machine are also covered with their respective functions.

The part 2 process course covers the common procedures for material preparation, the molding process, and common defects and how to address them.

The part 3 mold course explains the specific functions that an injection mold must perform, different mold configurations, common runner and gate types, and an overview on how molds are made.

2-Plate, 3-Plate, and Hot Runner Molds

2-Plate, 3-Plate, and Hot Runner Molds provides participants with an in-depth look at the three most common types of molds used in the plastics industry The advantages and disadvantages of each type will be discussed. Finally an introduction to specialized molds will be presented.

Gating Methods

Runners, Filling Software and The Mold Design Process discusses cold runner systems, runner temperature profiles and runner cross sections. Parting line location, mold design process and mold filling software are also covered.

External and Internal Actions

External and Internal Actions provides participants with an understanding of how different mold components are used to remove undercuts from an injection molded part. These components include Slides, Core Pins, Lifters, Expandable Cores, Collapsible Cores and Unscrewing Cores. This course also covers material considerations, preload, and seal offs.

Injection Mold Fundamentals

The Mold Design Series familiarizes participants with the different types of injection molds, contemporary machining methods, and many of the available mold components. This course also provides the participant with a tool design methodology and a sample mold specification guide for reference. The topics covered in this course cover the functions of injection molds, part design considerations, material considerations, molding machine considerations, and initial mold design.

Mold Bases, Tool Steels & Heat Treating

Mold Bases, Tool Steels & Heat Treating provides participants with an understanding of common mold bases and different materials used for injection mold construction.

Runners, Filling Software & Mold Design Process

Runners, Filling Software and The Mold Design Process discusses cold runner systems, runner temperature profiles and runner cross sections. Parting line location, mold design process and mold filling software are also covered.
